Dr.Ir. Sutanto Hadisupadmo.MT.,IPM is a lecturer at Physics Engineering Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), and has been as a Head of Laboratory of Industrial Instrumentation at ITB. He is former Director of Instrumentation Center and Technical Services of ITB. His education started at Engineering Physics, Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB-1977), then at Diplome Universite in Energetique, Universite de Prepignan, France (1985), Magister Engineering in Instrumentation and Control (ITB) and Doctor (ITB). He has over 20 years of experience doing training, consulting work in instrumentation, measurement, safety and process control and Mr. Sutanto has trained many training/courses for many companies in Indonesia such as PT. TOTAL Indonesie, Pertamina, PT. Petrokimia Gresik, PT. Badak LNG, PT. Pupuk Iskandar Muda, PT. Pupuk Kaltim, PT. Jaya Ancol and many others. BACKGROUND:
To reduce the effect of these load disturbances, sensors and transmitters collect information about the process variable and its relationship to some desired set point. A controller then processes this information and decides what must be done to get the process variable back to where it should be after a load disturbance occurs. When all the measuring, comparing, and calculating are done, some type of final control element must implement the strategy selected by the controller. The most common final control element in the process control industries is the control valve. The control valve manipulates a flowing fluid, such as gas, steam, water, or chemical compounds, to compensate for the load disturbance and keep the regulated process variable as close as possible to the desired set point. Many people who talk about control valves or valves are really referring to a control valve assembly. The control valve assembly typically consists of the valve body, the internal trim parts, an actuator to provide the motive power to operate the valve, and a variety of additional valve accessories, which can include positioners, transducers, supply pressure regulators, manual operators, snubbers, or limit switches. Whether it is called a valve, control valve or a control valve assembly is not as important as recognizing that the control valve is a critical part of the control loop. It is not accurate to say that the control valve is the most important part of the loop. It is useful to think of a control loop as an instrumentation chain. Like any other chain, the whole chain is only as good as its weakest link. It is important to ensure that the control valve is not the weakest link. Following are definitions for process control, sliding-stem control valve, rotary-shaft control valve, and other control valve functions and characteristics terminology.

OVERVIEW
The training course will cover every aspect of welding technology, process and welding supervision, related with welding metallurgy and material selection. Once the proper groundwork has been laid, everything will be pulled together with suggestion on how to get the most out of advanced welding supervision , process and welding inspection with examples and guidelines  for using the program to achieve optimum, least cost welding procedure specification related with fabrication process.

THE COURSE
This course will provide improve knowledge and practical technology training for guide line  process, welding parameter set-up, related with properties of material, before, during and after welding process. The course will be comprehensively discusses and guide  the calculation and analysis need in kind of welding process, material selection, code standards, and operating maintaining special material with least weld ability , and bring the participant  to be familiar with any kind of welding process and give how to identify welding imperfection and test.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS WILL LEARN :

  1. Welding Supervision and Process

The module will provide participants with the welding supervision parameter and process, advantage and disadvantage welding process related with base materials, and  welding technique, welding position, type of joint, set-up welding parameters. This module also discuss the practical exercise, technique and kind of test after welding related code standards.

  1. Welding Metallurgy

Through this module, participant will learn the materials commonly used with any kind of applications welding process, effect of alloying elements, weld ability of various material ( carbon steel, stainless steel , aluminum, nickel alloys, cobalt alloys, magnesium and casting ). Heat-Affected Zone (HAZ ), thermal cycle  and heat input effect in the weld zone.

  1. Welding Maintenance Repair

Through this module, participant  will learn :

  • Welding Procedure Specifications for casting materials
  • Post Weld Heat Treatment
  • Weld ability of casting ( refurbish, hard facing, over layer )
  • Quality Control during welding and after welding process.
  • AWS Classifications ( Consumable , test and code )
  • Weld Joint Efficiency, defect ( imperfections ) and repairs methods.
  1. Inspection, repair and maintenance

Through this module, participants will be guided to discuss the inspection methods, preparation procedure, and safety in performing internal inspection. Welding repair technique related with kind of materials, and also depending with welding parameter at, during process. This module also includes the NDT  test, after welding.

  • Material pressure vessel : sifat-sifat material, pengaruh heat-treatment, pengaruh penambahan alloys
  • ASME MATERIALS CODE, jenis jenis material dan pemilihan material. Welding : jenis las, ASME WELDING CODE, prosedur pengelasan, postweld heat treatment, kontrol kualitas, klasifikasi AWS, efisiensi sambungan las, cacat las dan repair.
  • Non Destructive Test : inspeksi welding, pemilihan NDT, visual, radiography (keterbatasan,CODE uji radiography sambungan las), partikel magnetic, cairan penetrant, ultrasonic, eddy current, acoustic emission. Destructive test.

  • Operasi: pertimbangan sifat-sifat proses, prosedur start-up, pengamatan dan shut-down

DESCRIPTION
Provides basic instruction and hands-on experience with the most common pipeline valves and actuators used on pipelines; participants visit manufacturing facilities to see first hand how valves are made. These field trips will also serve as a learning experience in the assembly and disassembly of valves and actuators, whenever possible. Participants receive handouts and other materials. This course is recommended for personnel involved in pipeline operation and maintenance.

The course present a practical approach to selection, sizing, instalation, opration and maintenance of control valves and actuators. This training course is designed with a total balance between theory and practical examples and will help the participant in better understanding of control valbe functions, testing and maintenance of valves

OBJECTIVE:

  • To Understand The Various Terminologies association ated with control valves.
  • Know obout all different types of valves commonly used in process industries and understand the relative advantages and limitations of each.
  • Understand the characteristics, function and application of the control valve.
  • To provide participants with the does and don’ts, good engineering practices of valve installation and operation.

Day 1
Sliding Stem Valve Bodies
Objectives :

Discussion will cover the many different types of valves, ANSI pressure classes, ANSI leak classes, trim styles, packing, and gaskets.

Actuators for Sliding Stem valves
Objectives :

Discussion will cover the operation of pneumatic spring and diaphragm and piston style actuators. Topic will cover bench set or spring adjustments, mounting on valves, and determination or fail modes.

Actuator Bench Set
Objectives :

Discussion will cover appropriate bench set adjustment procedures on spring and diaphragm actuators as outlined in the appropriate instruction manuals.

Day 2
Special and Severe Service Valves
Objectives :

Discussion will cover valves that are designed for high pressure applications, and corrosion service. Topics will include seals, gaskets, trim changes, and general maintenance procedures. A discussion on Cavitation and Flashing will also be covered.

Butterfly valves
Objectives :

Discussion will cover the butterfly and high performance eccentric disk valves. Topics will include seal replacements, operation, installation and flow directions.

Ball Valves
Objectives :

Discussion will cover the ball style valves with topics including seal replacements, operation, installations and flow directions.

Rotary Style Actuators
Objectives :

Discussion will include the operation of unique rotary pneumatic spring and diaphragm actuators. Travel
adjustments, spring compressions, and fail actions will be covered.

Day 3
P/P Positioners for sliding stem & rotary valves
Objectives :

Discussion will cover the mounting and calibration procedures for the positioners that are mounted and calibrated on sliding stem and rotary valves.

I/P Positioners for sliding stem & rotary valves
Objectives
:
Discussion will cover the theory and operation of the I/P and how a current input signal is converted to a pneumatic output signal. Detailed calibration and maintenance procedures are outlined for I/P positioner.

Actuator accessories
Objectives :

A discussion on the operation and function of transducers, and accessories (transducer, trip valve, limit witch, volume booster, etc)

FIELDVUE Theory of operation
Objectives :

A discussion on the basic operation and function of Fieldvue systems

Instrument Configuration and Calibration / Trouble shooting.
Objectives :

A discussion on the trouble shooting of control valves & accessories

Day 4
Sliding Stem & Rotary Valves Sizing
Objectives :

Explains theory of sizing. The discussion will include critical flow, sizing equation, steam sizing and the sizing procedure

Sliding Stem & Rotary Actuators sizing
Objectives :

A problem solving session covering the selection, sizing, and bench set of sliding stem actuators

Now Dr. Edi Leksono is a senior professor at Engineering Physics ITB. He have been interacting with industry for more than 25 years for training, consultancy and project implementation in field of SCADA, PLC, DCS, Instrumentation and Process Control and also energy saving. He have taught most of companies in Indonesia for many topics related to his competencies and he has implemented real project in field for many companies in Indonesia. In his expertise in ITB, he have dedicated much scientific work, such as writing or translating text book, being researcher and publish to journal and being speaker in national and international conference.
