FOR INDUSTRIAL & COMMERCIAL POWER SYSTEMS
This course is designed for electrical engineers responsible for industrial or commercial power systems planning, designs for reliability and overall system performance. Students will calculate available short circuit current at varied power system one-line locations to learn how to properly size fuses, cables, breakers and transformers. By learning protective device coordination, load shedding may be accomplished with minimal impact to power system operation.
COURSE CONTENT
At the completion of this course, students will be familiar with utilization of the following power system tools:
- Short circuit calculations
- Power factor improvement
- Recommended motor / generator / transformer protection
- Switchgear and system voltage selection
- Voltage drop / flicker reduction
- Equipment / system grounding practices
- Load estimating techniques
- Plant modernization recommendations
- Protective device coordination
- Fuses and thermal overload devices
- Electro-mechanical and solid state relays
- Transformers, cables and bus bars
- Circuit breakers
